Lincoln Cathedral

Yesterday I was lucky enough to visit the historic city of Lincoln as part of my university search. Situated on top of a very, very steep hill is this magnificent cathedral. I was really stunned, not only by how beautiful the building was with all its intricate stonework and carvings; but by how alike it is to my own city. It gave the place a very homely vibe.

Built 1185-1311 the cathedral displays an array of aspects of original gothic architecture. The Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln was the tallest building in the world for 238 years until in 1549 the central spire collapsed and was never rebuilt.

The cathedral is a poignant and astoundingly beautiful reminder of the past, definitely worth a visit
